Back boiler to combi conversion in Nelson

The job

We were called out to a homeowner in Nelson with a leaking header tank in the loft. The tank was very old and all of the joining pipework was in lead. The heating was run by an old back boiler with a primatic cylinder, on a one-pipe system. There were two ways forward: replace the header tank and repair the existing system, or fully upgrade the central heating.

What we did

We talked the customer through both options. Our recommendation was a replacement boiler: renewing the system with a combi boiler and fully repiping the radiators onto a two-pipe system. The customer decided to go ahead with the full upgrade. The work included a full new gas run, a full condensate run that is fully insulated, and a complete new repipe of the heating. A brand new combi boiler with a 5 year warranty was installed and the whole system was fully flushed out.

The result

We brought in additional labour so the job could be completed quickly, and the whole boiler conversion in Nelson took 2 days. In place of the old back boiler and one-pipe setup, the customer now has a much more efficient central heating system, with a 5 year warranty on the new boiler, and they are happy with the result.
